GEAA Singles General Electric Athletic Association
Pittsfield—Every so often, the game of golf comes easy.
Skyline member Jason Whitmire proved as much on the front nine during yesterday’s GEAA Singles.
Birdies on Nos. 4 and 6, sandwiched by an eagle on No. 5, highlighted an impressive 4-under par 32.
“That was probably the easiest front nine I’ve ever played,” said Whitmire, 12th in last year’s Men’s Player of the Year standings. “I didn’t even work for par.”
But an erratic driver left him with plenty of work to do on his final nine holes.
Wayward tee shots on Nos. 11 and 16 provided bookend bogeys to a six-hole stretch that Whitmire played in 3-over.
Still, his 2-under 70 topped the leader board by day’s end. A winner in last year’s North Adams Match Play, Whitmire earned 40 points in the Men’s Player of the Year standings, presented by the Scarafoni Financial Group.
