Men’s Allied 4-Ball Stockbridge Golf Club May 12th
Stockbridge—Speaking of the horses for courses theory, how about Stockbridge Golf Club and Bob Linn?
The last time Linn played in a Men’s Allied event hosted by the historic south county club, he walked away with a share of the 2005 Men’s Individual Allied Crown.
During Saturday’s Men’s Allied 4-Ball, the only sharing he had to do was with his partner, fellow Berkshire Hills member Jim Warren.
Linn and Warren, 4-ball partners in local events since 2003, carded a bogey-free round of 4-under 67, good for a one-stroke victory over Matt Carlino and Bob Driscoll, both of the host club. A pair of brother tandems, defending champions Andy and Rich Congdon and Chris and Pete Baran, shot 69 to tie for 3rd.
“It’s just a great golf course,” said the 53-year old Linn, who lives in Enfield, Conn. “It puts you in the mood to play.”
Warren, 47, also lives in Connecticut. His name might be unfamiliar in Berkshire golfing circles, but his game looks very familiar to Linn.
“We just feed off each other,” Linn said. “It’s uncanny.”
Warren agrees.
“I’m pretty good tee-to-green,” he said. “Bob’s good around the greens. We both hit the ball the same all the time.”
Linn hopes to make it three wins in three attempts this Friday, when he returns to Stockbridge for Friday’s Stockbridge Classic, an event he finished 5th in last year.
“We’re looking forward to it,” Linn said to a chuckle.
