August 21—Less than one month removed from winning the Northeastern New York PGA Professional Championship, Taconic Assistant Professional Josh Hillman pulled a rare double, winning the section's' Assistant Championship for the 2nd consecutive year last Tuesday.
"This one was a lot tougher than [2006]," said Hillman, who won $1,100 with the victory. After an opening 71 in the morning left him two behind leader Scott Berliner, Hillman's deficit grew to four after Berliner made the turn in 4-under. But Hillman made up all four shots on the first three holes of the back nine and entered No. 13 tied for the lead. Two holes later, he made birdie and held on for a one-stroke victory.
"I've never come from four down with nine to play in stroke-play," said Hillman. The win also earned him a spot into the national assistant championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla. on Oct. 25-28. Stockbridge assistant Steve Mazzariello, 2nd in this event last year, tied for 9th with rounds of 75-76. CC of Pittsfield assistant Mike Morschauser shot 77-75 and tied for 11th.
