Pro/Pro
Berkshire Hills
May 10
Pittsfield—Berkshire Hills Head Professional Bob Meheran spent his entire winter in Florida.
As you’d imagine, he spent most of his time on a golf course, Olde Memorial in Tampa.
Not as a player, though, but as a caddy.
Meheran guesses that he caddied roughly 90 rounds—far, far more than he played.
So, his golf game entered Tuesday’s Pro/Pro, the season-opening event on the Berkshire County Pro Series, in the same shape as his fellow local professionals.
Rusty.
“I just kind of went to sleep on three holes,” joked Meheran, who bogeyed Nos. 9, 10 and 11. “We just haven’t been in competition for so long. We’re not in competition mode.”
Still, his 72 was the only score not over par on wind-swept Berkshire Hills, where Meheran, 42, has served as Head Professional since 1999.
His three birdie, three bogey performance also helped him secure top billing in the team competition with Country Club of Pittsfield Head Professional Brad Benson. They teamed to shoot 4-under 68, two shots better than the 2-under 70 Meheran shot with blind draw partner Mike Morschauser, an assistant under Benson.
On the day, Meheran pocketed $437.50.
“Nice day out of the (golf) shop,” he said, with a smile.
