Florence, S.C.—Around 5 a.m. yesterday morning, Matt Donovan looked outside his hotel window and didn’t like what he saw.

Rain. And more rain.

“It was pouring,” said Donovan, who is three-over par thru 54 holes of the PGA TOUR qualifying Tournament and is six shots back of the final qualifying spot. “It was pouring.”

First he was told there would be a one hour delay. Then it was pushed back to two hours. Then five. Then seven. And finally play was postponed for the day.

“We didn’t a play single golf shot.” Donovan said. “It rained all day.”

With his day planner suddenly open, Donovan brought his caddy, Mike Morschauser, to the airport for his scheduled flight home. Then he went to a movie with Justin Goodhue, who he will play with in the final round.

“It might do the body good, who knows,” Donovan said of the rain. “I have to shoot six or seven-under, which is definitely do-able. I don’t feel like I’m out of the mix. But I’ve got to be near flawless.”

Donovan tees off Florence Country Club’s 10th tee at 9:20 Saturday morning.
