Diane Breen: August 19th

Editor’s note: Breen enters the Women’s Allied Individual on Aug. 22 at Berkshire Hills (her home course) in a deadlock with Kathy Duguay atop the Women’s Player of the Year standings. This year, they have partnered in seven events and won six, with their lone non-win coming in Stockbridge’s Sherwood Invitational, where they made double-bogey on No. 16 and lost by one. She penned a journal one week before the Allied in response to several questions.

The Allied: “I'm really looking forward to playing, it's at my home course so I hope to play well.”

Kathy Duguay: “I hope we both play well.  There will be a lot of good players in this field many of which are very capable of winning.”

Balancing work and golf: “This year I made a conscious decision to play more. I am very lucky to have a somewhat flexible work schedule which has allowed me to meet my work commitments while still being able to play golf in most of the events.

Winning player of the year: “Winning player of the year would be very gratifying because it means a lot of the hard work has paid off, but I really will be happy if I just play well.”

ACES, anyone: “How about all of the hole-in-ones this year at Berkshire Hills? I feel very fortunate to have one in my career and one of the girls makes two in nine holes!” (Note: During one 10-hole stretch, Berkshire Hills recorded 10 ACES, including three in the Ladies Open, two of which came from one player.
