Davis Mullany: August 19th
Editor’s note: Mullany, an 18-year old junior member at Wyantenuck, won the Men’s Individual Allied at Waubeeka on Aug. 12. He shot a blistering 6-under 66 in the morning and followed it with 75 in the afternoon to win by three shots. He penned a journal the week after in response to several questions:
Shooting 66: “I have shot several under par rounds in tournaments. Two or three years ago I shot a 4-under par round at Taconic in a Mass Junior Amateur qualifier. I shot another 4-under round at Worcester C.C. last summer. I play the red tees at Wyantenuck at night sometimes, so going under par isn't out of the comfort zone for me. “
How he celebrated winning the Allied: “After the win on Sunday, my friend Liam and I went out for a night of partying. It was a fun time. (I'll spare you the specifics.)”
Why we haven’t seen him much in Berkshire events: “This has been my last summer of junior golf, so with work and junior golf I have not had time to play in the other county events. I might play in the Wyantenuck Classic next week, but I have to see how the work schedule looks. With junior golf out of picture for next year, I plan to play in a lot more county events. This win has helped me gain some confidence after relatively disappointing summer. It was right in time for college.”
His upcoming freshman season at Dartmouth College “I can't wait to leave for college. I'm not nervous about leaving, but more unsure of what to expect. I'm going to try to balance golf, school, and partying up at school the best that I can. I leave for Dartmouth on the 9th of September for golf preseason. At this point, I am not sure what spot I will be on the team. I think a player's position is all performance based, so it all depends on how well i play. I should make the starting lineup.”
Why he’s going to Dartmouth: “I decided on Dartmouth because it has a nice golf practice facility, a great coach, and academically it’s one of the best.”
