Player Spotlight: Matt Ortega

Home Club: Berkshire Hills

Handicap: 4

Occupation: Police Officer

2006: Year in Review

Low Round: 69, at Berkshire Hills on June 2nd

Best Tournament Finish: 14th, Men’s Individual Allied

Best shot: Second shot on No. 12 at Wahconah during the first round of the Little Brown Jug: one hop and in for eagle

Most Memorable Moment: Making eagle on 12th hole at the Little Brown Jug and having John Enright, in his yearly Saturday night dinner speech, acknowledge that certain things will stand out to all participants twenty years from that weekend, and one would be the eagle on the 12th hole.

Goals Accomplished: I had several goals that I had set for myself coming into the 2006 golf season. However, several injuries kept me from attaining these goals. Playing with these injuries limited me from either practicing as much as I would have liked or just kept me from performing to my expectations. Taking time off probably would have been a smart choice but the short season we have in the Berkshires forced me to play through the injury when I really should have taken the time off. No goals were attained and my desire to work harder in the off season has grown stronger.

Overall Golf Grade: I give myself a C+
