Berkshires Announce Women, Senior, Junior POY Awards
One year after successfully implementing a men’s player of the year point ranking system, Berkshire County golf will welcome women, senior and junior player of the year point ranking systems this season.
Based on input from local PGA Club Professionals, Allied representatives and amateurs throughout the county, each player of the year system incorporates local, state, regional and national events. Revisions to the original men’s system have also been made. The four players with the highest point total from each category will receive a trophy from Jones Trophies following the conclusion of the season.
Men:
- 26 total events, including the BHCC, GEAA, Stockbridge, Waubeeka, Worthington and Wyantenuck Singles
- No team events included
- The Berkshire County Allied (August 13th at Egremont) awards the most points locally, with the winner receiving 300 points
- Revised schedule now includes Massachusetts and United States Public Links and Mid-Amateur championships (including qualifying)
- NACC Match Play now awards 170 points to the winner, up from 65 last year
- Donnie Troy captured the inaugural player of the year in 2005, with 512.5 points

Women:
- 24 total events, with individual, scramble, scotch and four-ball formats
- The Women’s Allied (August 21st at Wahconah) awards the most points locally, with the winner receiving 275 points
- Local events include CCOP Women’s Invitational, Elisabeth Redfield Tournament and the Sherwood Tournament
- National events include United States Amateur, Mid-Amateur, Senior Amateur and Public Links Championships
- Each women’s club championship will award points to the top four finishers, with the winner receiving 45

Senior:
- Restricted to competitors age 50+
- 15 total events, including the senior division of the BHCC and Wyantenuck Singles and the Greenock Senior Singles
- No team events included
- Points earned in a Men’s POY event will also apply to a competitor’s Senior POY point total
- The Senior Allied Championship (July 17th at Waubeeka) awards the highest points, with the winner receiving 300
- The Berkshire County Senior Association series will award points to the top 15 finishers in each event. Only players with full memberships at Allied Clubs are eligible to compete in these events
- Each senior club championship will award points to the top four finishers, with the winner receiving 45
- The top 10 finishers from the MGA Senior Amateur Championship will earn points, with the winner receiving 325

Junior:
- Schedule rewards performance on the following junior tours: AJGA, FCWT, PJGT, Northeastern New York Junior Tour Series (NENY.PGA.com) and the Sierra Mist Junior Golf Tour (Connecticut.PGA.com)
- The top five finishers from the Junior Allied Monday Series will earn points, with the winner receiving 40
- Each junior club championship will award points to the top four finishers, with winner receiving 35
- Anyone who qualifies locally for the Massachusetts Junior Amateur (July 17th at Wyantenuck) and Trusted Choice Big “I” Junior Classic (June 19th at Stockbridge) will receive points
- Each player is responsible for notifying TheGolfScribe.com when they earn points in an event
- Anyone receiving points in a Men’s POY event will receive the amount published plus 15%, which will apply to their junior point total. The originally published amount will apply to their Men’s POY point total
- The following national events, including their qualifiers, also award points: Callaway Golf Junior World Championship, U.S. Junior Amateur, Optimist International Junior Golf Championship, Westfield Junior PGA Championship, Trusted Choice Big “I” Junior Classic,
