August 6—Just when you thought Loren Roberts and Worthington’s Doug Reed didn’t have anything in common, think again.
In between four Champions Tour victories and a firm grasp on the Charles Schwab Cup title, Roberts has tallied three top 30 finishes on the PGA Tour against players barely older than his first daughter.
Reed, the current Senior Player of the Year points leader, has represented the 50+ set just as nicely in Berkshire County.
Last month, he shot 76 and tied for 3rd in the Allied Senior at Waubeeka. One month earlier, Reed shot a 72 at Wyantenuck to win the season-opening Berkshire County Senior Association Series event at Wyantenuck.
His good form continued this weekend in the Worthington Singles. Opting to compete in the Open Division, instead of the senior flight, Reed shot a 2-over 72 to finish 2nd, the highest Berkshire County finish. In the process, he earned 35 Men’s Player of the Year points. Those points will also apply to his Senior POY total, boosting his lead to 110 over Mike Donlon.
Tim Tunstall, 4th in the 2005 Men’s POY standings, shot 73 and tied for 3rd. He earned 27.5 points. |
