Donnie Troy: 2005 Berkshire County Player of the Year
My second season of college golf for Eckerd is beginning. I’m really excited for not only the competition, but for the fun road trips we have as a team. We have a great time and support each other through good and bad rounds. It’s a lot of fun. I’m also excited to see how my results will be after coming off a positive summer which showed growth and potential. It seems like all of the hard work I have been putting in the last couple years is beginning to pay off. This was the first summer where I consistently put myself into contention to win. I learned how to break par on a consistent basis which is key in order to compete with the best players. I feel like I’m learning something new about the game everyday. It makes the whole process even more enjoyable. We’ve already had two tournaments for our fall season. I finished T15 and T3. I played well in both tournaments and had a chance to win in the last tournament but didn’t finish off my final round. It was disappointing, but I’m glad that I putmyself in position to win. I learned from the experience so I’m looking forward to next time when I have the chance to get it done. It’s crazy we’ve already had two tournaments. Time is flying - we have three more events in the fall and then five in the spring, and of course, the big NCAA tournament. Our team has started off slow so far this season. However, I’m confident we will pull it together and give ourselves a great chance to reach nationals. Being part of a team and seeing improvement throughout all five guys and then sharing success together makes the game all that much sweeter. I’m looking forward to a great year! |
